Ex-Aereogramme men Craig B. and Iain Cook have unveiled their new musical project, The Unwinding Hours.
At this stage very little is known about the act; the band’s MySpace profile hosts a fragile demo, “Solstice”, an image of actor Joe Turkel (Lloyd the Butler from The Shining) and the following note: “We used to play in in a band called Aereogramme. That may or may not matter to you. Just thought i’d mention it.”
A blog entry from Craig B. sheds a little more light on the project:
Hello. Thanks for coming. This is “The Unwinding Hours” – Craig B and Iain Cook. We have been slowly writing, playing, programming and recording demos since 2008 and now we have 10 songs. “Solstice” is a small taster of what’s to come. The drums have already been recorded by Paul Savage at chem.19. The rest of the album will be recorded at Iain Cook’s studio starting on the 24th of August. We are quietly excited. The album will be released at some point next year. There are no plans to tour yet. Feel free to ask any questions. Cheers
The available demo, “Solstice”, suggests a natural progression from Aereogramme’s final studio effort, 2007’s My Heart Has a Wish That You Would Not Go, recalling album highlight, “Exits”, and the calmer, more melodic, tendencies of their swansong.
Aereogramme parted ways in 2007, citing “complex” reasons for their cessation: “Never ending financial struggle coupled with an almost superhuman ability to dodge the zeitgeist have taken their toll, ensuring that we just don’t have any fight left in us. We are immensely proud of the four albums that we made over the past seven years.”
More on The Unwinding Hours as we find it.
