Snapshot: exlovers

It’s been a busy year for exlovers: their debut EP, You Forget So Easily has got the indie press talking, and their first headline tour has given the London quintet a richly-deserved opportunity to expose themselves and their unique indie-pop to a wider audience.

Anyone trying to wean themselves off a crippling shoegaze addiction should look away now, because exlovers have their eyes turned unashamedly earthwards. They occupy a middle-ground in that odd triangle between Blur, My Bloody Valentine and Elliott Smith, dancing coyly from jangling guitar hooks to laidback acoustic strumming; from intoxicating boy/girl vocal melodies to lonely laments.

“Photobooth” is a glittering pop gem with a dangerously infectious guitar line, while the ethereal “Just A Silhouette” is wistfully nostalgic and beautifully melodic. “Incomplete”, meanwhile, benefits from a frantic Britpop guitar riff and subtle, driving bassline that lend it a compelling sense of urgency.

exlovers are, without a doubt, one of the UK’s most promising indie-pop acts. Start listening now and you’ll be able to impress your hipster friends when they get huge.
