Idlewild frontman begins work on sophomore album

Idlewild vocalist Roddy Woomble is currently writing songs for a second solo album. The following was posted on his online diary earlier today:

“I’ve started work on writing songs for a new solo album. I hadn’t planned on doing another, but people seemed to want one, and if you haven’t planned on doing something, it’s often the best time to do it.”

To date, Woomble’s solo excursions have been nothing but fruitful; his debut, My Secret is My Silence, is arguably one of the finest contemporary folk albums of the past decade, while his collaborative album with Kris Drever and John McCusker, Before the Ruin, ranks amongst 2008’s very best.

I, for one, can’t wait for this release. More info as we find it.
